Sport seats and harnesses — what's legal

Verified 24 June 2026 · RoadLegal.cz editorial team

Seats and harnesses are among the most safety-sensitive interior modifications — they protect you directly in a crash, which is why stricter requirements apply to them than to most cosmetic modifications.

What you need

Both the seat and the bracket (adapter) used to mount it to the vehicle floor must be homologated specifically for your vehicle model. Homologation of the seat alone, without a matching bracket for the specific vehicle, isn't enough. If the exact combination isn't homologated, a technical assessment from an accredited testing body is needed.

Multi-point harnesses and roll cages

A standard three-point belt is sized for use with a standard seat. Switching to multi-point (4- or 6-point) harnesses also requires addressing anchor points — these either already exist from the factory, or an additional frame or roll cage must be installed, which is itself a separate modification with its own registration requirements.

What to watch out for

  • Cheap sport seats sold without homologation documents aren't legal for road use, regardless of build quality.
  • An incorrectly torqued or incompatible bracket can fail in a crash even with a homologated seat.
  • After installation, registering the change at the local authority (ORP) is required — without it, the seat won't pass inspection as roadworthy.

Recommendation

Choose the seat and bracket as one homologated package for your specific model, and have the installation confirmed at STK K-technik before registering it at the ORP.
