Changing your vehicle's color — how and by when to report it

Verified 23 June 2026 · RoadLegal.cz editorial team

By law, you should report a vehicle color change within 10 days. If the police stop you and the change hasn't been reported, you may receive a fine or be told to fix it.

What you need

To report a color change, you don't need to obtain manufacturer approval or visit an inspection station. Just go to the vehicle registry and report the change.

To register the color change, you fill out the form "Application to register a change of road vehicle registry data" — in the "requested change" field, write "vehicle color change".

Vehicles with multiple colors

If a vehicle has two or more colors, the registry will usually register only one predominant color. Vehicles with two registered colors usually have them registered directly by the brand's dealership.

Registration certificate

If you still have both parts of the old-style registration certificate, the registry will replace them with a single one. The new certificate with a QR code no longer lists the vehicle's color — you'll only find it electronically via the transport portal or the eTechničák app.
