OEM performance parts (M Performance, AMG, S line) — when registration is needed

Verified 26 June 2026 · RoadLegal.cz editorial team

Performance and styling parts straight from the manufacturer — BMW M Performance, Mercedes-AMG, Audi S line — fitted after the car leaves the factory have one advantage over typical aftermarket parts: they're designed exactly for that model, and there's usually manufacturer homologation documentation (ECE/ABE or part type approval) backing them. That tends to make legalization easier.

What doesn't require registration

Purely cosmetic elements that don't change a parameter listed in the vehicle documents usually don't require registration.

What requires registration even on a genuine part

Parts that change technical parameters need to be registered in the vehicle documents even if they're genuine manufacturer parts:

  • exhaust and emissions,
  • suspension,
  • brakes,
  • dimensions,
  • weight.

Who confirms the vehicle's roadworthiness

Final roadworthiness is confirmed by the STK, or an accredited inspection body. We assess against the regulations actually in force.
